Glenn W. King has always been involved in the painting trade. You might say he has paint thinner in his veins. He started out working with his father’s painting business as a teenager; sanding, dusting, scraping, all the dirty jobs. But it taught him the trade from the ground up. He painted his first house on his own when he was 15 years old.
In 1979 he started his painting business in St. Petersburg, Florida. At first he worked by himself, but the business took off and he ended up having as many as 12-15 men on many different jobs. As the business grew he found the niche that worked best for him and his company was to have a smaller operation devoted to quality work. Having a large crew kept him busy with estimates and billing, but took him away from what he likes best: painting.
So he downsized, kept his best 3-4 painters and specialized in quality residential painting, especially high end interior and exterior work. He worked with a number of fine interior decorators over the years and they painted some of the finest residences in St. Petersburg, South Tampa, Clearwater, Riverview, Palm Harbor, Largo, South Pasadena, and adjoining communities. They also did selected commercial jobs and all of the new residences built by KEL Construction (a quality Builder in St. Pete) for 20 years.
He and his wife, Susan Jane, had traveled through Gilmer County on a number of occasions due to her business as a textile designer and found that they truly loved this part of the country. So, they moved to Ellijay, Georgia in 2006 and started a business here. His wife, an artist and textile designer, helps him with color consultations for many of his customers who find it hard to choose that right shade, as a matter of fact she worked with him on the more than 30 colors used in the ClearChannel Radio Station Building in Tampa, Florida.
Mr. King is looking forward to the potential of this growing community and painting the fine residences of Gilmer and surrounding counties.
